At No to Violence’s Fear Shouldn’t Live Here election forum, Premier Ben Carroll MP announced his government’s commitment to a new 10-year family violence strategy, answering a collective call from No to Violence, Sexual Assault Services Victoria and Safe and Equal. Yesterday’s forum brought the sector and political representatives together with a clear focus: making Victoria safer by stopping violence earlier. With national research finding 35% of men aged 18–65 reported using intimate partner violence in their lifetime, reaching men earlier must be central to the next decade of reform. Alongside a new 10-year plan, the incoming State Government must: Invest in targeted supports for young people to break cycles of violence before they become entrenched. Stop the funding shortfall to genuinely centre child and adult victim-survivor agency and safety. Connect the dots through an integrated framework to stop men’s use family violence. Today’s commitment is an important step - now it’s time for all parties to commit to funding and lasting change.
